What is Digital Television?
Digital Television differs from traditional cable television service in the method by which it is delivered. Fiber optic cable and twisted pair copper cable (telephone wire) are used to transport the signals, rather than coaxial cable. Digital technology enables HickoryTech to "compress" its signals, thereby offering many, many more channels than were previously possible with traditional or Analog Cable services. A "Residential Gateway" device then converts the high-speed data for use by the customer's television set. Digital Television is often praised for its superior picture quality. Return to Top
- Does it mean I have to buy a Digital TV?
No, actually the opposite is true. One of the benefits of a Residential Gateway is that it converts a digital signal to accommodate your current TV. Because of this feature, you will be able to enjoy many more years of service from your current television, without having to buy an expensive Digital TV. Return to Top
What is DSL?
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is a service being provided by telephone companies, with the help of ISPs. DSL technology provides normal voice service plus simultaneous Internet accesses over standard phone lines. Return to Top
Since it uses a single phone line for both telephone service and data, it allows you to be on the Internet without tying up your phone line. It allows for full-time 24-hour connection to the Internet. DSL requires very few changes to your existing hardware, and is quickly and easily installed. Return to Top
Do I need to have the wiring in my home replaced?
This will vary from house to house...There are many different variables that will allow HickoryTech's newest technology to work over your existing cable lines. But, there will be some instances that HickoryTech will find it necessary to re-wire your home for a better signal, which will bring you a cleaner, sharper, and more defined picture than what you have viewed in the past! Do I need a separate Residential Gateway for each outlet or room?
No…You only need one Residential Gateway for up to three separate televisions! A single Residential Gateway will allow you and your family to view three different televisions in different areas of your home (you decide where you want your televisions), surf the Internet on HickoryTech's DSL, and talk on the telephone all at the same time! What's the difference between HickoryTech Digital TV and these satellite services I hear about?
Plenty! For starters, there is no ugly, expensive dish to buy! Plus, unlike satellite services, you will receive all your local channels without an old-fashioned rooftop antenna. Want Digital quality picture on a second and third TV? It's easy and, unlike satellite services, there's no expensive receiver to buy. Return to Top

I understand that HickoryTech offers a feature called Music Choice on their channel line up. What is this?
Music Choice allows you to enjoy commercial-free, CD-quality sound on your TV or stereo, anytime...day or night.
Each of the 46 channels plays a different type of music, including country, classic rock, hottest hits, Christian, children, oldies and everything in-between. Music Choice is included with all packages but the Lite package. Return to Top
What equipment do I need?
A Residential Gateway box and up to 3 remotes will be provided by HickoryTech. If you need more than 3 remotes, you will need to purchase these yourself, and ask about options for using another Residential Gateway if needed. Return to Top
Where does that Residential Gateway need to go?
It can go wherever works best for you, be it on top of a TV, on a shelf, or other spots. Return to Top
Is the quality of the picture different?
