Digital Switched Service (DSS) is a dedicated service that offers digital high-speed trunking over T1 facilities at speeds up to 1.544Mbps, and is used to carry voice and data traffic. Each DSS facility can support up to 24 trunk channels.
Integrated Service Digital Network
ISDN-PRI
Integrated Service Digital Network Primary Rate Interface (ISDN-PRI) has a capacity of 1.544 Mbps for a dedicated connection. ISDN-PRI has either 23 B-channels and one D-channel or 24 B-channels to carry such things as voice calls, circuit-switched data, or video. This circuit can be provisioned for both outbound and inbound traffic, which is an effective tool for businesses with a high incoming call volume.
ISDN-BRI
Integrated Service Digital Network Basic Rate Interface (ISDN-BRI) is a dedicated connection that runs at a speed anywhere from 128Kbps to 1.544Mbps. ISDN-BRI provides three communication channels, using only one physical line between a telephone, computer, fax machine or other equipment and the Central Office. This provides the end user access to a variety of data, video, voice and image applications.
Centrex
Centrex is a service offered by HickoryTech, in which switching occurs at HickoryTech’s central office. Centrex service is designed to grow with your business; a cost effective alternative to having to make a large investment in buying and maintaining a private switching system (PBX).

- Centrex does not require a large up-front investment in equipment, floor space or resources to manage the system

Types of Centrex
Analog Centrex - This is a basic, cost-effective alternative to other business telephone systems. Your business can use your current standard phone to take advantage of many of the Centrex features.
Digital Centrex – This is an enhanced version of the analog Centrex. Digital Centrex requires the use of digital handsets, which provides the capability for easy dialing and one button access to a larger selection of features.
IP Centrex - IP Centrex is a fully managed service that combines the functionality of Centrex with the benefits of voice over Internet protocol (VoIP). IP Centrex enables business to unify multiple locations and deliver seamless support for local and remote workers, who benefit from the appearance of actually being in one office.
