HickoryTech Foundation Donates $10,000 to Faribault Public Schools

Funds provide music technology lab experience for more than 300 students

MANKATO, Minn., Mar. 19, 2007—The HickoryTech Foundation announced today a donation of $10,000 to Faribault Public Schools, a second payment in a three-year commitment totaling $30,000. The funding will provide a music technology lab, giving hands on experience to more than 300 students in the Faribault Senior High School.

The state-of-the-art music technology lab includes six computers; all equipped with robust software; midi keyboards and programs that enable students to better understand music theory, composition and recording. Students in grades nine through twelve utilize this lab as part of the curriculum in band, orchestra and choir as well as the theatre and drama departments. “This lab allows students to learn the science behind the music, versus just playing notes on a sheet of music,” commented Chris Dibble, music teacher at Faribault Senior High School commented. “We've been hoping to get the music lab for several years. HickoryTech's grant allowed us to get the music labs and make our students learning experience more interactive.”

“HickoryTech's contribution to Faribault Schools is crucial to maintain a technology driven educational environment for our students,” said Dr. Gwen Jackson, superintendent of Faribault Public Schools. “We are fortunate to have such a state-of-the art system in our district.”

The HickoryTech Foundation provided Faribault Public Schools a grant of $10,000 last year for the development of a new computer lab at the middle school, which added 21 seats and benefited more than 900 students.

“We are delighted to give back to the communities we serve and provide funding to the Faribault Schools to help with important technology initiatives such as this one that enriches how students learn,” said R. Wynn Kearney Jr., HickoryTech Foundation chairman.
